Katie Gibson

Katie is qualified in Soft Tissue Therapy specialising in sports injuries.

She is qualified in Personal Training, Nutrition and Medical Acupuncture.

Katie started her career, working with the Newcastle Thunders rugby league team then moved to Newcastle Falcons premiership first team completing two seasons with the club. Katie also trained in concussion management and was designated PVR on match days.

Katie decided to move into private practice with Physiohaus in Jesmond.

She is now concentrating on building her own practice at Heddon.

Our Therapies

Therapeutic massage

This treatment works directly on muscles, tendons and ligaments. Pain is relieved by breaking down adhesions(knots) between muscle fibres easing and relieving aching muscles. This stimulates the production of endorphins, the body’s own natural painkiller. During a therapeutic massage the nervous system is calmed and soothed and can envelope you in an overall feeling of well-being which makes it a great way to combat symptoms of stress.

Therapeutic massage is one of the best ways to treat many of the commonest modern day ailments. Such as stress, lack of energy, repetitive strain injury, sleeplessness, fatigue, headaches and general body aches. All achieved by increasing the circulation of blood supplying oxygen to the stressed areas. This also increases the circulation of your lymphatic system which collects and disposes of all your toxins. This can significantly reduce the aches in your muscles.

Sports massage.

A massage pre or post exercise can be very beneficial, it can help reduce or eliminate the toxins built up in the muscles during exercise, by increasing the efficiency of the lymphatic system and circulation.

Massage after and injury can also reduce scar tissue forming, helping to maintain muscle efficiency and strength. It also breaks down adhesions, enabling the damaged muscles to become toned quicker and restoring strength.

Aromatherapy

This is the use of essential oils found in plants, flowers and trees to promote and maintain health and wellbeing. As well as the benefits derived from their smells , many essential oils have important chemical properties as well. These include anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-bacterial effects. Used in conjunction with a massage the body’s natural healing process is triggered , which increases the lymphatic flow and blood circulation.

The aromas act on the nervous system as well as the emotional centre in the brain which governs the way we feel. Each mix of oils is specifically blended for the individual client and their needs.

Reflexology

Reflexology is and ancient Chinese and Egyptian technique which views illness as a result of blocked energy in the body. All the body’s organs are mirrored in the feet. Reflexology detects these blocked energy channels and by applying pressure to those points, the body’s energy balance can be restored.

Hot stone Massage (New York Style)

This style of massage was pioneered by the internationally famous New York City Stone Spa. The gentle heat from the stones allow the combination of hands-on and energy techniques applied to the client. This creates an amazing sensation of being nurture, relaxed or invigorated. It also allows the therapist to work as deeply into the muscles as needed, in a gentle and relaxing manner.
